Department of Media and Mass Communication (MMC) organized a media tour to Jamuna Television on March 20, 2019. The visit was arranged for the students who have completed the courses ‘Introduction to Journalism’ and ‘Broadcast Reporting and Anchoring’ as they have gained a basic understanding of news making process. The tour helped them to relate the theoretical and conceptual knowledge learned in the classroom to the real context and thus developed a better understanding of the integrated process of TV news production.
Renowned journalist Fahim Ahmed, Chief News Editor (CNE) of Jamuna Television, welcomed the MMC team at the Jamuna office in Basundhara Residential Area, Dhaka. The CNE briefed the students about the scope of journalism in our country while he also discussed about the news gathering and broadcast process. Later he also talked about the differences between print and broadcast journalism as he practiced print journalism for about a decade before switching his career into TV journalism.
Mr. Ahmed took the team to the Production Control Room (PCR), Master Control Room (MCR), News Studio, Current Affairs Studio, News Room, Archive Room and Edit Panels Rooms and described the works of each section. Along with the Mr. Ahmed, Reaz Md. Junayet, Assistant Manager of HR of the station, accompanied the MMC team. Mr. Junayet took the students to the Marketing, Research, Human Resource and Technical Control departments of the station. During the tour Aashaa Zahid, Head of Research, briefed the students about data journalism. Mr. Zahid inspired students to go beyond the academic text books and to learn about the real world of journalism with passion.
The head of marketing department of the station discussed about the digital marketing where he elaborated how the advertisers are moving from broadcast platform to the digital marketing platform to reach their target audience. He also described the process of getting sponsors for news and current affairs programs. Afroja Shoma, Assistant Professor, Media and Mass Communication department led the MMC team comprising of 12 members on the tour.
